Pure by Jennifer L Armentrout

Pure is the second book in the Covenant series by Jennifer L Armentrout, I have a review on book one HERE if you would like to check it out.

Pure is a great instalment in this series, I will admit just like with book one the story line and plot aren’t overly unique but that being said I was never left bored nor did I find the story arc overly predictable.

We rejoin the main character Alex as she is battling not only her inner demons following the death of her mother and her growing forbidden feelings for Aiden but also the inquest by the Council into her involvement in the Gatlinburg incident and to top it all of her relationship with Seth that is becoming more and more complicated as time goes by.

In Pure Alex’s life is once again turned on its head and she finds herself in a constant state of grief.  I think the way Alex deals with death and loss in this story is fantastic, her character becomes much more relatable than she was in the beginning of book. I found her to be less childish and “bratty” in this book something I really appreciated, Alex character has so much potential and I would have hated her “immaturity” from the beginging of book one to get in the way of her character development.

One thing in this story that I didn’t see coming was the death of Caleb, he was Alex’s rock and I thought she was going to go off the rails completely after his death. I really liked Caleb’s character and in way even though his death was essential for Alex’s character development I really wish Jennifer hadn’t killed him off I would have liked to see his character develop more.

Seth and Aiden where do I even begin, I really was hoping this series was not going to go down the whole Love Triangle route but alas it has risen it’s ugly head. I do not like love triangles, I find them frustrating and unrealistic. Personally I would have preferred the story to stay on the forbidden love route,

Seth’s character is fantastic! I love his attitude and his arrogance and his sense of humour is on point. I personally think he brings out the best in Alex’s personality. I have to admit I am a Aiden lover especially in book one and I personally still think he is the stronger love interest in the series.

The action is this book was a little slow to begin with and again the story dropped somewhere in the middle however when the story does pick up it makes the wait worth while. The final battle at the end left me speechless and I can not wait to get my hands on book three.

Pure is a fantastic second book in a series, full of action, suspense and full of swoon worthy romance. The books in this series are not unique but they are fun, fast reads.
