The Iron Trail by Cassandra Clare & Holly Black
Firstly I am going to address the elephant in the room the Harry Potter comparison.
Yes, there are many similarities within this story to Harry Potter and I did spend the majority of the first few chapters rolling my eyes however that being said, as the story progresses you see the similarities begin to fade and an enjoyable story begin to peek through.
The world building and writing were not the best but this could be down to the fact the book is a Middlegrade and this is the first time I have ventured into Middlegrade since my teens so I could be being a little harsh as I don’t have anything recent to compare it to.
The story is a fast paced, easy read, with characters I can see my young niece and nephews connecting with easily, however personally I couldn’t connect to the characters very well but this is more than likely down to the fact I am over 10 years older than the main character.
For the books main target market 12 – 15 year olds I think this book is fantastic however if you are over a certain age this may not be for you.
I have decided I am going to rate this book purely based on the story and how I think it works for its target market.
Miss Quinny Rating (4 / 5)
