Elixir by Jennifer L Armentrout
Elixir is a Novella set between Book 3 Deity and Book 4 Apolloyon in the Covenant Series by Jennifer L Armentrout.
Elixir is told from Aiden’s POV and is set directly after the closing events of Deity. The Novella is only 80 pages but is jam packed full of Action, suspense, romance and shocking revolutions and is a great addition to the series.
Unlike most Novellas I do think this book is an essential read in this series, without this book I think that Apolloyon would be full of plot holes that would be too complicated to explain. I loved “evil” Alex in this story the way she would use any means necessary to get out of her prison cell was fantastic and really added to her character.
The decision to put Alex on the Elixir was a “No brainer” really but it was still heart breaking to read, the way her character was completely ripped away from her and we are left with just a shell of her was fantastic. I can’t wait to see how the aftermath of her discovering she had been put onto the Elixir plays out.
The only issue I had with this book was Aiden’s voice, I really didn’t like it. It felt like the Aiden character in this book and the Aiden character in the main books are two different people. He just felt a little too immature compared to the character we all know and love especially considering he is supposed to be in his 20’s. I also got this love sick teenager vibe from him that wasn’t attractive for a character of his age.
That being said there are some elements of the original Aidan character that I loved, his interactions with Deacan for instance were amazing and I loved the moment that he told Deacon that he knew about him and Luke. Also the very simple line “Saint Delphi, my ass” was fantastic.
Overall the story itself was fantastic and it is a great addition to the series however the issues I had with Aiden’s character let it down.
