Dash and Lily’s book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
This is a hard book for me to review, mainly because overall I really enjoyed the book and the premise however Lily’s childish personality ruined this book for me.
The dares that had been set early on in the book had me in stitches especially the scene with poor Dash sitting on Santa’s lap.
Dash as a character for me was fantastic, he was funny, snarky and likeable everything that Lily wasn’t in my opinion. His is a loud and proud nerd, he has real feelings and his home life is complicated making him relate able. If this book hadn’t been told in dual perspectives I don’t think I would have finished the book.
Lily on the other hand was childish, bratty and In all honesty I hated her. This has to be the only book that I can say I didn’t want a happy ending for the characters as I felt Dash was too food for Lily and he deserved better. Lily’s pity party throughout the entire book rubbed me the wrong way, she came across as a spoiled brat who thought if she stamped her feet long enough she would get her way. I found myself rolling my eyes at the majority of her chapters. And don’t even get me started on the whole whiteboard thing with her parents.
Overall the book is funny and an enjoyable easy read however this book was have been improved greatly had it been from only Dash’s point of view.
I would defiantly recommend giving this book a go if you are a fan of YA contemporary, if you can look past Lily’s personality this book is enjoyable.
