Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld
This book was a 3.5 stars for me to be honest.
Overall I did really enjoy this book, this book has alternating narratives between Darcy in the real world and Lizzie who is the main character within Darcy’s début novel.
I feel I can review this book better by reviewing each story separately so that is what I am going to do.
Darcy is an 18 Year old Début author who managed to get the novel she wrote in one month, published and has now taken the leap to move to New York. Darcy was a very relate able and loveable main character and I found her story to be the story I enjoyed the most from this book.
Lizzie is a young girl who is the sole survivor of a terrorist attack, after she manages to enter the “afterworld”. I found the first few chapters of Lizzie’s story extremely creepy and very compelling but as the story went on, for me it became a little bland and I would be going through the motions.
Overall for me the stand out in this book was Darcy and her sections of the book, if this had just been on Darcy I would have given it a 4.5 stars, but unfortunately the way Lizzie’s story progressed lost my interest and I have settled on 3.5 stars.
