A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin

I did it. I finally finished A Game of Thrones and let me tell you this feels like a huge achievement because this book is not the easiest read or the easiest story to get into.

When I started this book I have to admit I was extremely intimidated, I originally started the book back in January and slowly made my way through around 250/300 pages over the course of 8 weeks. I found it hard to get into the world initially. There are so many main characters and POV’s that at times I was getting lost and mixing up characters and story lines.  I think this was the reason it took me so long to read those first few hundred pages. However once March rolled around I decided it was time to take the plunge and immerse myself in this world and not pick up anything else until it was finished.

Once I did this I managed to “fly” ( I use the term Fly loosely) through the rest of the book in two weeks and the story lines and POV’s changes finally started to make sense to me.

There are many things to love about this book the world building especially is impeccable, the author did an amazing job of creating a world so vivid that my mind was left racing. He also did a fantastic job of character development, each and every character you follow in A Game of Thrones is crafted to almost perfection.

The stand out character and storyline for me was Daenerys, she is a fantastic female character and in a “world” that is male dominated I loved how she came into her own and I can’t wait to see her development especially after that ending!!

If you are a fan of high fantasy story’s I would say give this book a chance, I know it is intimidating and yes it is a commitment to read this book but it is oh so worth it.
